The second season of The Last of Us has just wrapped up on HBO Max, but if you know you’re going to want to watch it again, multiple physical editions are up for preorder right now, including a 4K Blu-ray with a limited-edition steelbook case. The Last of Us Season 2 releases on Blu-ray, 4K Blu-ray, and DVD on September 23. Retailers are still in the process of creating store pages, but you can preorder The Last of Us Season 2’s Limited Edition Steelbook for $47 at Walmart or $40 at Gruv.
Amazon has yet to open preorders, but the retailer does have store pages for all four physical editions, so it should be available to purchase soon.
The Last of Us Season 2 Limited Edition Steelbook (4K Blu-ray)
$47 at Walmart / $40 at Gruv | Releases September 23
The Last of Us Season 2’s Limited Edition Steelbook features promotional photography of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) with Cordyceps fungus forming a moth–like Ellie’s tattoo–in the background. The interior artwork shows Ellie surrounded by a horde of people who have succumbed to the Cordyceps fungus.
Season 1 of The Last of Us didn’t receive a Steelbook Edition until March of this year, so it’s cool to see Season 2 will have one on launch day. The Last of Us Season 1’s Steelbook Edition has been going in and out of stock since its reveal, but Amazon currently has it available for $50.
Season 2’s bonus features haven’t been revealed yet, but we’re hoping to see something similar to the Season 1 release, which includes featurettes on each episode as well as a disc filled with short documentaries and interviews.
We do know that the 4K Blu-ray edition displays in native 4K (2160p) resolution and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. The infected’s growls and the unsettling calling card of Clickers should sound pretty unnerving with Dolby Atmos audio and 7.1 lossless surround sound.
The Last of Us Season 2 Standard Editions
4K, Blu-ray, and DVD | Releases September 23
If you don’t care about steelbook cases, The Last of Us Season 2 will also be available in three standard edition formats. The 4K Blu-ray standard edition is up for preorder for $35, the 1080p Blu-ray is $30, and the DVD edition is $25.
- 4K Blu-ray — $35
- Blu-ray — $30
- DVD — $25
The Last of Us Season 2 continued HBO’s largely faithful adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game franchise. While Season 1 had nine episodes, Season 2 only had seven. The new season adapted a portion of The Last of Us Part II, though it was largely told from Ellie’s perspective. Season 3 is expected to flip the script and follow Abby, the other playable character from the second game.
