If you’re not already familiar, Spartacus: House of Ashur returns to the bloody world of Spartacus and follows previous series antagonist Ashur in an alternate history where he lives through the events on Mount Vesuvius and is rewarded for his efforts to end the slave rebellion started by Spartacus.
In this version, the former gladiator is now the owner of the ludus (a gladiator training ground) that once owned him. It’s an action-packed tale centered on power, legacy, class, gender, and spectacle. And if you were a fan of the original Spartacus series, don’t worry. There’s plenty of sex and gory violence to go around in this follow-up, too.
Creator, writer, and showrunner Steven S. DeKnight returns to helm the new series, and Nick E. Tarabay reprises his role as Ashur, who has clawed his way from slavery into power. But now he’ll have to navigate new threats he’s never dealt with before: the cutthroat world of Ancient Roman politics. He’ll turn tradition on its head when he uses his newfound power to unleash Achillia, a fierce gladiatrix who’s ready to prove herself by any means necessary. And they’ll team up to create a new spectacle that shocks, disrupts, and offends the Roman elite.
If you haven’t experienced the original Spartacus yet or want to revisit it in anticipation of the new series, you can stream all four chapters of the franchise — Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena, Vengeance, and War of the Damned — on the STARZ app and all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms. And make sure to claim your tickets in the link above and be the first to see the first two episodes on November 19.
