It’s not enormously surprising, but the Nintendo Switch 2 has ground pounded the launch records of practically every other console in the country. The system debuted with 947,931 units, according to Famitsu. This number even excludes some data, like purchases from the My Nintendo store.
To put this into context, the previous console launch sales record in Japan was the PS2, which opened with 630,552 units. That’s an impressive number, but the Mario maker’s new machine comfortably obliterated it. In fact, it’s already sold in just a few days approximately 15% of the PS5’s lifetime total.
