🧩 System & Kernel

  • Base: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) – long-term support, solid foundation.
  • Automatic HWE Kernel Detection and Installation: installs linux-generic-hwe-24.04, with fallback to linux-generic for maximum compatibility.
  • Mainline Kernel Utility (Cappelikan PPA) pre-installed – allows fast kernel updates when desired.

🌐 Network & Desktop

  • NetworkManager as the default network stack (Netplan renderer switched to NM).
  • KDE neon Desktop instead of minimal Plasma, with SDDM display manager and graphical target enabled.
  • Includes practical KDE tools: plasma-nm, konsole, dolphin, kde-config-sddm.

🔊 Audio & Bluetooth

  • Modern PipeWire + WirePlumber audio stack for low-latency sound.
  • BlueZ + OBEX fully configured for Bluetooth devices and file exchange.

🪶 Branding & System Identity

  • Persistent AILinux identity service (ailinux-branding.service) runs on every boot and refreshes:
    • /etc/os-release, /etc/lsb-release, /etc/issue, and MOTD.
    • GRUB distributor = “AILinux”, OS-Prober enabled (for multi-boot systems).
  • Friendly login message: “Be smart. Be kind. Ship code. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ”.

🚀 Repositories & Update Speed

  • Signed AILinux GPG keyring using modern .sources format.
  • Built-in mirrors:
    • archive.ailinux.me (primary)
    • Ubuntu base archives (main + updates + security)
    • Optional KDE neon (User Edition)
  • APT Pinning Priority 1001 ensures AILinux and KDE neon packages are preferred.
  • i386 architecture enabled for legacy and gaming compatibility.
  • Google Chrome repository and Snapd pre-configured.

Result: apt update and apt upgrade run blazingly fast using verified, local mirrors.

🧰 Pre-Installed Base Packages

  • Browsers & Mail: Firefox (Snap fallback ready), Google Chrome Stable, Thunderbird.
  • Editor: Kate – lightweight and KDE-integrated.
  • (Optional, commented in script: LibreOffice, VLC, Steam, WineHQ-Staging, Winetricks, FileZilla, GIMP.)

🧹 Cleanup & Logging

  • Automatic autoremove and clean after installation for a lean base.
  • Installation logs stored in /var/log/install-ailinux.log.
  • Success marker: /var/local/ailinux-installed.stamp.

🖥️ On First Boot

  • AILinux Branding Service executes instantly to confirm system identity.
  • SDDM launches the KDE neon desktop.
  • NetworkManager controls all connections; PipeWire/WirePlumber manage sound.
  • APT uses prioritized, signed AILinux mirrors → updates apply instantly and securely.
  • Mainline Kernel tool is available for future upgrades, while HWE remains the stable default.

💡 Why It Stays “At the Pulse of Time”

  • Combination of HWE + Mainline = continuous hardware compatibility.
  • Curated mirror structure + pinning = latest packages within minutes of release.
  • Idempotent system services (branding, network, audio) = consistency after every update.

In short:
AILinux boots clean, updates fast, and always stays modern — a Linux that keeps pace with the times yet carries the calm precision of the classics.
Brumo approves: “It just works, but smarter.” 🐻💫
