There’s no question that continuing the success of the PlayStation 5 is one of Sony’s top priorities, especially given that its latest console is getting closer to five years old. The Japanese tech giant has yet to formally announce the PlayStation 6, but over the past few months there have been some developments that have allowed us some rare insight into what shape the eventual console might take.
In this post, we’re rounding up everything we know about Sony’s PlayStation 6, a potential new Sony handheld, and what the future of console gaming might look like. Keep checking back for more as we update this post as new information comes to light the closer we get to an eventual release date in the next few years.
PS6 Release Date, Potential Price
Since no formal announcement has been made for the PlayStation 6, there’s no release window to speak of. Taking the company’s previous console generation cadence into consideration, one could assume that a PS6 could release in 2027. That would be seven years after the PS5, which itself launched seven years after the PS3. But the gaming industry has changed dramatically since then, which is evident in how long support for the PS4 has stuck around this far into a new generation of hardware. Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida recently shared that „2028 feels right“ when asked about the PS6, but notably hasn’t been at Sony since the end of 2024.
